On the evening of February 20, 2024, a Shot Spotter alert drew Baltimore police to the 800 block of West Lexington Street around 11:34 p.m. Inside a home, they discovered 19-year-old Darcell Terrell Mitchell suffering from gunshot wounds. Investigators later determined that Mitchell had been shot while standing outside before he ran into the residence for cover. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
