In the late summer of 2004, a young man named Nicholas Bershaun Foster, aged 26, was seriously injured in an incident on August 29th. The altercation proved to be fatal, and Foster, a resident of Millen, Georgia, succumbed to his injuries on September 6, 2004, at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. His death launched an investigation that would soon lead to an arrest and a search for justice.
