On April 27, 2024, at approximately 6:45 a.m., Livermore police responded to a shooting at the La Quinta Inn on Southfront Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered two individuals, 26-year-old Lizabeth Murillo-Rodriguez and 21-year-old Christopher Vera, both from Oakland, deceased from gunshot wounds.
Investigations revealed that Murillo-Rodriguez was married to the suspected shooter, 30-year-old Yonston Vazquez, also of Oakland.
Authorities believe Vazquez tracked his wife and Vera to the hotel, where he allegedly deceived the front desk clerk to gain access to their room. Surveillance footage reportedly shows Vazquez requesting a key to Room 212, claiming he was a guest who had misplaced his key. After obtaining the key, he attempted to enter the room; finding it secured with a chain lock, he forced entry.
Following the incident, Vazquez contacted Murillo-Rodriguez's family, purportedly to justify his actions. He claimed that upon discovering his wife with Vera, a struggle ensued over a firearm, leading to the fatal shootings. However, police have not corroborated this account and continue to seek Vazquez, who remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.
Authorities have charged Vazquez with double murder and are actively pursuing leads regarding his whereabouts. The Livermore Police Department urges anyone with information to contact their anonymous tip line at (925) 371-4790.
