On April 10, 2024, at approximately 2:00 a.m., 35-year-old Oscar Gonzalez was fatally shot while driving westbound on the 4700 block of Florence Avenue in Bell, California. His vehicle subsequently collided with a pole at Vinevale Avenue and became engulfed in flames. Responding officers from the Bell Police Department observed bullet holes in the vehicle and discovered Gonzalez with a gunshot wound to his torso. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau assisted in the investigation, leading to the arrest of 20-year-old Edward Paul Patino of Whittier later that day. Patino was booked on suspicion of murder and held in lieu of $2 million bail. Authorities have not disclosed a motive for the shooting.
