On October 27, 2023, at approximately 4:40 a.m., 83-year-old John Barajas was found unresponsive at his residence in the 1000 block of West 227th Street, situated between Vermont and Normandie avenues in the unincorporated area between Carson and Harbor Gateway, Los Angeles County. Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon and discovered Barajas inside the home. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
