On August 3, 2023, at approximately 12:37 p.m., 19-year-old Nicholas Alistair Neaimi-Pour was fatally shot in Irvine, California. The incident occurred near the intersection of Athel Avenue and Sego Street. Neaimi-Pour had entered the passenger side of a black Mercedes-Benz parked along the east curb of Athel Avenue. Shortly thereafter, a white Honda Civic approached and stopped alongside the Mercedes. A male passenger exited the Honda, opened fire on Neaimi-Pour, and struck him multiple times.
Despite exiting the vehicle and collapsing in the street, Neaimi-Pour received immediate medical assistance from a nearby resident until first responders arrived. He was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Irvine Police Department (IPD) swiftly initiated an investigation, canvassing the neighborhood for witness statements and surveillance footage. Detectives identified two potential suspects residing near Kensington Park and Saint James, in close proximity to the crime scene. A search warrant was executed at the residence, with the assistance of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team due to the severity of the crime. The operation led to the arrests of 21-year-old Jayden Browndorf of Irvine and 22-year-old Noah Farmer of Tustin. Both individuals were taken into custody without incident, booked on homicide charges, and transported to the Orange County Jail.
Further investigation revealed the involvement of a third suspect, identified as 20-year-old Hailey Angelique Rangel of Lake Elsinore, who was believed to be the driver of the white Honda Civic used during the shooting. On August 6, 2023, IPD detectives apprehended Rangel near Green River Road and the 91 Freeway in Corona. She was subsequently booked for homicide at the Orange County Jail. All three suspects were held without bail and faced charges including conspiracy, with special circumstance allegations of committing murder by means of lying in wait. Farmer faced additional sentencing enhancements for the discharge of a firearm causing great bodily injury or death, and personal use of a firearm. The suspects were scheduled to make their initial court appearances at the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana.
The tragic death of Neaimi-Pour, a resident of Costa Mesa, shocked the local community, particularly given Irvine's reputation as one of America's safest cities.
