On May 11, 2023, at approximately 1:49 a.m., Fresno Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire on the 600 block of North Fresno Street, prompted by two ShotSpotter activations indicating multiple rounds fired in the area. Upon arrival, officers discovered 45-year-old Nathaniel Castaneda lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to Community Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
