On February 9, 2023, at approximately 1:30 a.m., 24-year-old Brody Witherell was fatally shot while sleeping on a couch inside a residence in central Fresno, California. The Fresno Police Department responded to a ShotSpotter activation indicating 18 rounds fired near Clark and Grant avenues. Upon arrival, officers found Witherell inside the home with a gunshot wound, suggesting that the shots were fired from outside the residence.
He was transported to Community Regional Medical Center, located just three blocks away, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators determined that multiple gunshots had been fired into the residence, striking Witherell as he slept. The house sustained several bullet impacts, but no other injuries were reported. At the time, this incident marked the fourth homicide in Fresno for the year 2023.
As of now, there have been no reports of arrests or identification of suspects related to Witherell's death. The Fresno Police Department has urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
