The suspect, Christopher Valdez, who is not related to the victim despite sharing the same last name, was also attending the party.
According to Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer, the two men were acquaintances and were seen hanging out together before the shooting. For reasons that remain unclear, Christopher Valdez began firing multiple rounds, resulting in Andrew Valdez's death.
Following the incident, Christopher Valdez fled the scene. However, on February 8, 2019, detectives served five search warrants, which led to the seizure of evidence implicating Christopher in the shooting. He was subsequently arrested and booked into jail. At the time of his arrest, Christopher Valdez was on parole for robbery. The police urged anyone who witnessed the shooting to come forward, as there were several people present at the party who might have valuable information.
The case against Christopher Valdez proceeded through the legal system, with prosecutors charging him with first-degree murder.
