On January 15, 2023, 31-year-old Robert Morgan of Turlock, California, was fatally shot outside the Grand Cru bar in downtown Turlock. Morgan, an off-duty security guard at the establishment, had intervened in a physical altercation that began inside the bar and continued outside. During the confrontation, an individual exited a dark-colored sedan, fired multiple gunshots at Morgan, and then fled the scene.
Following an investigation, authorities identified 23-year-old Alejandro Rosales-Ortuno of Los Banos as the primary suspect in Morgan's death. On March 1, 2023, Rosales-Ortuno was apprehended during a traffic stop in Los Banos, conducted with the assistance of the Los Banos Police Department. He was subsequently booked into the Stanislaus County Jail on a no-bail homicide warrant.
On September 21, 2023, Rosales-Ortuno pleaded guilty to the murder of Robert Morgan. He was sentenced to 15 years to life in state prison. The Turlock Police Department expressed condolences to Morgan's family and friends, hoping that the sentencing would bring some measure of closure as they continued to mourn their loss.
