Daniel "Danny" Russell, a 50-year-old resident of Turlock, California, was tragically shot to death on June 19, 2018. Russell was living in a trailer behind a home on Almond Avenue when he was found by the property owner. According to his sister-in-law, Linda Smith, Russell was left to bleed out after being shot, and she believes he could have been saved if help had arrived sooner.
Russell was a new grandfather and was known for his generosity and willingness to help others, having raised five of his late sister's children.
The Turlock Police Department launched an investigation into Russell's death, quickly identifying Roger Amos, 56, as a person of interest. Amos was arrested the following day after a medical emergency led to his hospitalization. Upon his release, he was booked for the homicide. The police believe that Russell knew his attacker and that the shooting was not gang-related. Neighbors reported hearing a small-caliber gunshot around 2 a.m. on the day of the incident, and the area had been experiencing increased crime and drug activity in recent years.
