On December 1, 2024, Octavious Jackson, a 44-year-old former Florida State University (FSU) defensive tackle and member of the 1999 national championship team, was fatally shot in Hollywood, Florida. The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. outside Jaycee Hall, a local event venue. Jackson was reportedly attempting to break up a fight when he was shot.
Jackson, a Miami Carol City High School alumnus, was well-known in his community.
He had a teenage daughter and was described as a good person who was not involved in any wrongdoing.
The shooting resulted in two fatalities and two injuries. The second deceased victim was identified as 44-year-old Taron Nicks, a friend of Jackson's. Two other individuals were hospitalized, with one discharged and the other remaining in intensive care.
The shooting occurred during a family celebration at Jaycee Hall, which was hosting a baby shower and wedding anniversary party. The event had approximately 80 attendees. The manager of Jaycee Hall expressed shock over the incident, noting that the venue had previously hosted events without such violence.
As of December 28, 2024, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. Authorities have identified several persons of interest and are seeking information from the public to assist in the investigation.
