On December 2, 2024, 23-year-old Dionna Samuel was fatally shot while working at the McDonald's located at 588 N. 24th Street in East St. Louis, Illinois. Samuel, a Belleville resident, was employed at the McDonald's and was also working a second job at a local bank. Her mother, Angelia Johnson, and brother also worked at the same McDonald's location.
The shooting occurred around 7:30 p.m. when a suspect approached the drive-thru window and opened fire, striking Samuel multiple times.
