In the autumn of 1984, 56-year-old Tessie Pozar and her husband Frank were preparing for their annual trip to Hawaii. The hardworking couple owned and operated the Spokane Street Motel and other businesses in Spokane, Washington, and had invested in 24 acres of land in Hawaii where they planned to eventually retire. It was their custom to close their motel for the fall and winter months to escape to the warmer climate. On October 26, 1984, Tessie and Frank were seen for the last time in Spokane. They had purchased plane tickets to fly to Hawaii on October 30th and had made arrangements to board their two beloved dogs at a local kennel on October 29th, but they never arrived for their flight or at the kennel. The disappearance of Tessie and Frank went unnoticed for a significant amount of time. The couple did not have a telephone at their Hawaiian residence and their communication with family and friends while away was infrequent, usually consisting of an occasional postcard. As Thanksgiving and Christmas passed without any word, their children grew concerned. In early January 1985, after confirming they had never arrived in Hawaii, their family reported them missing to the authorities. The investigation revealed that their camper, which they had stored at a warehouse, had been picked up by an unidentified man on October 29th. The camper was later found abandoned in the long-term parking lot of the Spokane International Airport on November 10th. Investigators believe that Tessie and Frank Pozar met with foul play. Their packed suitcases were discovered in the basement of the motel, and other personal items they would have taken on their trip were found in the possession of their son, Frank Pozar Jr. He became the primary suspect in their disappearance, though he has consistently denied any involvement and has never been charged. The case of Tessie and Frank Pozar remains an unsolved mystery in Spokane, a quiet testament to a couple who diligently worked towards a dream retirement they were never able to realize. Their two dogs were also never found.
