On May 10, 1967, in the town of Hannibal, Missouri, three young boys vanished without a trace. Edwin Craig Dowell, 14, and brothers Joel and William Hoag were last seen on the south side of town between 4:20 and 5:00 p.m. The boys were equipped with shovels and a flashlight, telling onlookers they were heading to explore Murphy's Cave, which was situated near a construction project for Highway 79.
