In the late autumn of 2024, a sense of unease settled over the family and friends of Karl Olivier Desmeules, a 31-year-old man from Quebec. He was last seen in the Saint-Laurent borough of Montreal on the evening of November 24th. At the time of his disappearance, Desmeules was described as being 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing approximately 170 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. When he was last seen, he was wearing a royal blue tuque, a red or burgundy hooded winter coat, beige pants, and was carrying a military-style green backpack. Concern for his well-being grew after it was reported that he had made some unsettling comments before he vanished and had not been in contact with anyone since. The days following his disappearance were filled with worry, as his loved ones had reason to fear for his safety. It was his girlfriend who first raised the alarm when he did not return home, a concern that was compounded when she learned he had also not been showing up for work. Desmeules, who is fluent in both French and English, was known to travel either by bicycle or on foot. The lack of communication was out of character, and as time passed with no word, the situation became increasingly distressing for his family, particularly his mother, Louise Auclair, who described receiving the news of her son's disappearance as a crushing blow. In response to his disappearance, the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) launched an investigation and appealed to the public for assistance. As part of their efforts to generate new leads, police deployed a mobile command post in the Saint-Laurent borough, near the intersection of Marcel-Laurin and Côte-Vertu boulevards, on December 6, 2024. This location was chosen because it was determined that Desmeules was last seen in a nearby business. Despite these efforts and the heartfelt pleas from his family, the case has remained unresolved. The official police communications have noted the lack of any significant findings.
