In the autumn of 2005, a man named Stacy Lucien Dilenardi, 31 years of age, vanished from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, leaving behind a life he had just begun to build. Having spent his entire life in Sudbury, Stacy had recently relocated to Sault Ste. Marie for a new position as a technician at the Ontario Forest Research Center. On the morning of November 28, 2005, he went to his job as usual. That afternoon, at approximately 1:12 p.m., he was last seen at a Sewell's gas bar on Frontenac Street in the Rankin Reserve. Surveillance footage showed him purchasing Player's Light cigarettes, although he was known to smoke menthol cigarettes. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a beige or khaki-coloured vest over a blue-sleeved sweater and beige pants. After this purchase, Stacy Dilenardi was never seen or heard from again. The investigation into Stacy's whereabouts began swiftly, but clues were scarce. A significant development occurred on December 1, 2005, when his 2003 red Chevrolet Cavalier was discovered abandoned on a bush road, approximately 15 kilometers behind the Garden River First Nations Reserve. The car was found deep in on Connor Road in Duncan Township. An initial search of the area was launched but was soon hindered and ultimately called off due to heavy snowfall. Hope was renewed in the spring, and in May 2006, a more extensive 20-day search was conducted involving as many as 55 trained searchers from Sault Search and Rescue, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), and the Sault Ste. Marie City Police. Despite the use of OPP helicopters, snow machines, and specialized canine units with cadaver dogs, the exhaustive search of the remote, wooded area yielded no clues as to Stacy's fate. Stacy is described as being 5'8" tall and weighing between 155 and 160 pounds with a thin build. He had brown hair down to his ears that was balding on top, brown eyes, and he wore glasses. He had a medical condition, psoriasis, on his arms, legs, and back, and required medication for both a thyroid condition and depression. He sometimes used his middle name, Luke, and had legally changed his name to Luke Dilenardi in January of 2005, just months before he disappeared. The case remains a perplexing mystery for law enforcement and his family. He had just started a new chapter in his life, having moved for a new job only a few months prior to his disappearance. The discovery of his abandoned vehicle in a remote area suggested a troubling end to his journey, yet extensive searches of the surrounding wilderness turned up no evidence of his whereabouts, leaving his loved ones with unanswered questions.
