In the late summer of 2010, a family's life was forever altered by the disappearance of Donald Edwin Pringle. On the afternoon of Saturday, August 28th, the 61-year-old man was last seen in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. He was observed at approximately 2:00 p.m. walking by himself on Great Northern Road, in the vicinity of Second Line East. There was nothing overtly alarming about his presentation; he was simply a man out for a walk, not carrying anything with him. At the time he vanished, Donald was described as a white male, standing 5'11" and weighing around 190 to 200 pounds. He had short, receding white hair, blue eyes, and a moustache. His attire was noted to be a light blue polo shirt or sweater and shorts, and it's believed he may have been wearing a cowboy hat. The search for Donald was complicated by a significant personal detail; he lived with bipolar disorder and required medication to manage his condition. It was known that without his medication, he could become agitated and aggressive, a fact that added a layer of urgency and concern for his well-being. The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service initiated an investigation, asking the public for any information regarding his whereabouts. He was known to frequent the downtown area of Sault Ste. Marie, but despite this, leads were scarce. His case was logged with incident number SM10022019 as his family and the community waited for any news. Years passed, and the painful uncertainty for Donald's loved ones continued. As of late 2014, he was still considered a missing person. The case remained one of four long-term missing persons cases on the books for the Sault Ste. Marie police at that time. Authorities had indicated that the most recent tips related to his disappearance had been received about a year and a half prior to the end of 2014, but they had not led to a breakthrough. The official files were subject to annual review in the hopes that new evidence or information might come to light. The overview of this case is one of a sudden and unexplained disappearance of a vulnerable man.
