On March 4, 2009, 52-year-old Wesley Craig Foulds began his day in Abbotsford, British Columbia, with plans for a doctor's appointment in Burnaby. He left his home that morning in his red 2007 Dodge Ram pickup truck, but he never arrived at his 11:30 a.m. appointment. Later that day, concern grew when he also failed to show up for his 2 p.m. shift as a dedicated health-care provider in the Whonnock area. This was reportedly out of character for Foulds, who was known to be a reliable employee. His common-law wife reported him missing that night, setting in motion a search that would leave his family with more questions than answers. The day after his disappearance, a significant clue surfaced when Foulds' pickup truck was discovered by a BC Hydro crew at the Hayward recreation site in Mission. An extensive search of the heavily wooded area was launched, with more than 100 people scouring the terrain, but there was no sign of Wesley. Inside the abandoned truck, investigators found Foulds' cell phone, but his wallet was missing. A troubling discovery was also made: a small amount of blood on the driver's seat, which DNA testing later confirmed to be his. The last outgoing call from his phone was made at 10:14 a.m. on the day he vanished. His family described him as a "dedicated family man, with no drinking or drug problems," and did not believe he would have taken his own life, a sentiment supported by the contents of his personal journal. Years after he was last seen, a new piece of information emerged when a witness came forward. She told police she believed she had seen Wesley driving his truck westbound on Lougheed Highway on the day he went missing, and that there was someone in the passenger seat. The witness recalled that something about the appearance or behavior of the two individuals caught her attention. Despite this lead and a "thorough" and "diligent" investigation by the Abbotsford Police Department, the case grew cold. A private investigator hired by the family found no financial transactions or contact with friends and family after his disappearance, and no indication of a secret life. The disappearance of Wesley Craig Foulds remains an unsolved case, a painful mystery for a family who remembers him as a loving and caring man who was cherished by his loved ones and the community he served.
