A 45-year-old Indigenous man, Nowell was last definitively heard from in January of 2014, in the city of Edmonton, Alberta. His family had lost contact with him sometime in 2013, creating a widening gap of silence that would eventually trigger a formal investigation into his whereabouts. The passage of time since that last contact has only deepened the concern his loved ones and investigators hold for his safety and well-being. The official investigation into Nowell's disappearance did not begin until years after he was last seen. In August 2019, the Camrose Police Service initiated a missing person file for the then 52-year-old man. As their investigation progressed, it became clear that the most recent traces of his life were in a different city. By June 2020, after determining his last known location was in Edmonton, the case was transferred to the Edmonton Police Service (EPS). Facing a significant time lapse, the EPS appealed to the public for any information that could help piece together the final known movements of Nowell Halfe. Nowell is described as standing five feet, ten inches tall and weighing around 160 pounds with a medium build. He has brown hair, hazel eyes, and a light complexion. His appearance is marked by several distinguishing features, including visibly missing teeth, a piercing in his left ear, and noticeable scars on his left hand and right wrist. At the time he vanished, he was known to typically wear facial hair. The case remains an active missing person investigation, clouded by the many years that have passed without any contact. For his family and the police, the primary hope is that someone, somewhere holds a piece of information that might finally shed light on where Nowell Leonard Halfe is.
