In the spring of 1990, a sense of unease settled over the family of 25-year-old Alim Feasal Hasan. He had been in Burnaby, British Columbia, visiting relatives before he was scheduled to return to his home in Alberta. On March 21, 1990, Alim was last seen, with the expectation that he would board a Greyhound bus in Vancouver for the journey back to Edmonton. His family anticipated a call from him upon his arrival, a call that never came. As days turned into weeks with no word, concern mounted, and on April 12, 1990, his family officially reported him as a missing person to the Burnaby RCMP. It remains unknown if Alim ever made it onto the bus that was supposed to take him home. At the time of his disappearance, he was described as having a slender build, dark complexion, and short black hair. He was last seen wearing a red and black mackinaw-style jacket, blue jeans, a white shirt, and white basketball socks, and may have been carrying a red and white sports bag. The investigation into Alim's disappearance took a strange turn in the weeks and months that followed. On April 6, 1990, approximately two weeks after he was last seen, a brown suitcase was discovered outside the Hope RCMP detachment. This suitcase was found to contain Alim's clothing, personal items, and identification. It is not known who left the suitcase there or if Alim himself had been in the Hope area. Then, in May of 1990, a potential breakthrough emerged when a witness contacted police to report seeing a man they believed to be Alim hitchhiking on Highway 97 near Kelowna. The witness had seen a newspaper article about his disappearance, which prompted the call. However, despite their efforts, investigators were never able to reconnect with this witness after the initial phone call, leaving the sighting unconfirmed. Decades have passed since Alim Feasal Hasan was last seen, yet the case remains open, and his family continues to seek answers. The Burnaby RCMP's Missing Persons Unit has not given up hope of solving this long-standing mystery. They have made public appeals for information, specifically reaching out to anyone who may have been in the Hope or Kelowna areas around the time of Alim's disappearance. There is a belief that someone out there holds a piece of information that could finally shed light on what happened to the young man who vanished all those years ago. The discovery of his suitcase in Hope and the unconfirmed sighting in Kelowna are the only significant leads in a case that has been marked by a frustrating lack of information. The question of whether Alim ever boarded the bus, and what events transpired afterward, continues to be the central and unanswered mystery in this enduring missing person case.
