The last time his family had any contact with him was around Thanksgiving weekend, on October 20, 2024. This uncharacteristic silence was the first sign that something was amiss. His bank accounts showed their last activity on October 19, and his cell phone has been inactive since October 20. Although he was last in contact on October 20, there was a confirmed sighting of him on October 23, captured on surveillance footage at Casey's Liquor Store in Fort St. John. As days turned into weeks with no word, the family's worry grew into a deep-seated fear for his well-being, leading them to officially report him missing to the Fort St. John RCMP on November 1, 2024. The investigation into Gary's disappearance began with the police seeking public assistance to piece together his last known movements. He was described as an Indigenous male, standing approximately 5'8" to 5'9" and weighing between 209 and 221 pounds, with short black hair and brown eyes; he also sometimes wore glasses. Distinguishing features include a four-inch scar near his hairline, a scar on one knee, and a unique physical condition affecting his left hip, described as having only half of a hip socket. He has several tattoos, including the name "Luca" behind his left ear, flames on his inner left forearm, a cross on his left cheek, and "RENO" tattooed on his right hand. At the time of his disappearance, it is believed he may have been driving a black 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander. A significant and troubling development in the case was the later discovery of his vehicle, which had been burned. Despite extensive efforts by law enforcement, the case of Gary Brandon Reno remains shrouded in mystery. In the months that followed his disappearance, the RCMP conducted numerous searches, employing K9 units and all-terrain vehicles to navigate and scour previously inaccessible areas. In a standard procedure for long-term missing persons cases, investigators collected personal items from his accommodations at the Buffalo Inn in January 2025 to create a DNA profile. Adding another layer to the complex situation, it was noted that he was scheduled for a court appearance on November 4, 2024, on charges of assault and breach of undertaking, which he failed to attend. The abrupt halt in communication, the last confirmed sighting days after his final contact with family, and the eventual discovery of his burned vehicle paint a deeply concerning picture. His family continues to wait for answers, holding onto hope that someone with information will come forward to shed light on what happened to him after he was last seen. The investigation remains active as authorities continue to seek any information that could lead to his whereabouts and bring closure to his loved ones.
