In the small, close-knit community of La Minerve, Quebec, the morning of March 24, 2000, began like any other for 38-year-old Rene Rosa. He was last seen at his home at approximately 7:50 a.m. The last person to see him was his son, who was leaving for school that morning. This ordinary family moment would become the last known sighting of Rene, marking the beginning of a long and perplexing mystery that has troubled his family and investigators for years. At the time he vanished, he was described as being approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing 162 pounds. He was reportedly wearing a black leather coat and jeans. Later that same day, the case took a disturbing turn. Around 2:40 p.m., a road maintenance worker discovered Rene's vehicle, a purple 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier, abandoned on Montée Charette. The car was located nearly five kilometers from his residence. The vehicle was damaged, and there were signs that someone had attempted to steal it, adding a layer of confusion to the unfolding situation. From that point on, there has been no trace of Rene Rosa. The discovery of the car, far from providing answers, only deepened the concern and raised more questions about what could have happened to him in the hours after he was last seen by his son. The disappearance of Rene Rosa left law enforcement with a case that was, in the words of one Sûreté du Québec officer at the time, a "complete mystery". With no witnesses to his disappearance after he was last seen at home and no further leads after his car was found, the investigation has faced significant challenges. Over the years, his case has been added to the Sûreté du Québec's list of unsolved cases in the hopes that new information might come to light. Despite the passage of time, the search for answers continues, and authorities still ask that anyone with information that could help solve this crime contact the Sûreté du Québec's criminal information line. The case remains an open wound for his loved ones and the community, a story without an ending that began on an ordinary Friday morning.
