On the night of July 9, 2004, in Estevan, Saskatchewan, 13-year-old Courtney Jenell Struble vanished. She had been spending the evening with friends at a location on the outskirts of town. Around 11:30 p.m., when it was time to go home, she declined the offer of a ride and chose to walk instead. Courtney was last seen wearing blue jeans and a grey bunny hug. She was described as being 5'3" tall and weighing about 125 pounds, with light brown hair and hazel eyes. Notably, she had a birthmark on the nape of her neck and a one-and-a-half-inch scar on her left shin. Though there were some reported sightings after that night, none have ever been confirmed, and extensive searches have not been able to locate her. In the initial stages of the investigation, there was speculation that Courtney may have run away, a theory fueled by some troubles at home that were reported to police. This belief led to several reported sightings, both within Saskatchewan and in other provinces, though none were ever substantiated. Friends of Courtney may have contributed to these rumors in an effort to protect her from getting into trouble. However, as time passed with no contact and no activity on her bank account or health card, the likelihood of her being a runaway diminished. All of her personal belongings, including her wallet, makeup, and stuffed animals, were found at her home, and she had made plans with friends for the upcoming week, suggesting she intended to return. In 2010, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Historical Case Unit took over the investigation from the Estevan Police Service. Based on the evidence they reviewed, investigators came to believe that Courtney was the victim of a homicide. The disappearance of Courtney Struble has left a lasting impact on her family and the community of Estevan. Despite the passage of many years, the case remains an active and open investigation with the RCMP's Historical Case Unit, who continue to work in conjunction with the Estevan Police Service. Investigators have conducted hundreds of interviews and followed up on numerous leads, holding out hope that someone has the piece of information that will solve the case. They believe it is likely her remains are located somewhere in or around the Estevan area and continue to encourage anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward. The case is a stark and painful reminder of a young girl with dreams of becoming a hairdresser or a teacher, whose future was tragically cut short. Her family and friends are left with unanswered questions and the enduring pain of not knowing what happened to her after she began her walk home on that July night.
