In the early hours of New Year's Day 2012, 28-year-old Brandy Rene Wesaquate was last seen in Regina, Saskatchewan. At approximately 1:30 a.m. on January 1st, she left a house party on the 900 block of Rae Street. Brandy, an Indigenous transgender woman, was known to be in regular contact with her family and friends. When days turned into weeks without a word, her loved ones grew increasingly worried. Their concern led them to file a missing person report with the Regina Police Service on January 10, 2012. At the time of her disappearance, Brandy was wearing faded blue jeans, a white Adidas zip-up hoodie with black or navy stripes down the sleeves, and white "board-style" running shoes. She was also carrying a blue and white Adidas backpack.

Following the report of her disappearance, the Regina Police Service launched an investigation and sought help from the public. They issued news releases and asked residents to check their properties, including backyards and outbuildings, for any sign of Brandy or anything that seemed unusual. Search efforts soon expanded, with trained volunteers from Search and Rescue Regina joining police in a door-to-door and block-by-block search of the area where she was last seen. The search for Brandy eventually moved beyond the city limits, with the RCMP and volunteer searchers combing the outskirts of the city's east side. Despite these efforts, there have been no significant breakthroughs in the case. Her family has created a Facebook group to help spread awareness and gather information about her disappearance.

The passage of time has not brought answers for Brandy's loved ones, and her case remains an active and open investigation with the Regina Police Service. Her disappearance has been highlighted in the CBC's database of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, and her aunt testified at the national inquiry of the same name. Brandy is described as being 5'10" tall, weighing between 180 and 190 pounds, with brown eyes and shoulder-length, straight blonde hair at the time she went missing. She has a tongue piercing and several tattoos on her left forearm, including a flower and heart design, the name "Judy," and an image of a Native mother and child. The lack of any contact with family and friends since that early morning in 2012 is completely out of character for her, leaving a painful void for all who know and love her. The investigation into what happened to Brandy Rene Wesaquate is ongoing as her family continues to hope for answers.
