On December 6, 1989, 16-year-old Vasily Andreeff was working aboard the 42-foot fiberglass crab fishing vessel, the Angara, in the Shelikof Strait, approximately ten miles west of Eagle Cape near Shuyak Island, Alaska. The vessel overturned and sank, leading to the loss of two of its crew members. While the body of 48-year-old Ignaty Andreeff was recovered, Vasily's body was never found despite search efforts. He is presumed to have drowned.
