On May 21, 1984, 27-year-old Douglas R. Bangs and two other men disappeared while halibut fishing near the mouth of the Kasilof River in Alaska. The three men had set out in their boat, the "Minnie Mine," to check their halibut skates located approximately two miles from the river mouth. They were last seen in the vicinity of a buoy in the area.
