On the evening of June 8, 2018, a violent incident claimed the life of Sammy Holmes, a 30-year-old Black male and aspiring musician from the Kansas City area. Holmes had been at an Applebee’s restaurant located on Missouri 350 Highway in Raytown, a suburb within the metropolitan area. According to reports, he was inside his vehicle in the parking lot around 6:00 p.m. when gunfire erupted. Witnesses in the vicinity reported hearing shots fired, prompting immediate calls to law enforcement.
