Dramatic police bodycam footage has been released, capturing the arrest of David Contreras, a 52-year-old father accused of fatally shooting his 21-year-old son, Eric Contreras, at their Kendall, Florida home on November 3, 2023. The footage shows Contreras emerging from the house with his hands up, visibly distraught, and repeatedly telling officers, "I shot my son," while sobbing. He then directed police to his son's body inside the home.
Prior to the police's arrival, Ring doorbell video captured Contreras informing his wife about the shooting. In the footage, she urgently asked, "Is he alive? Is he breathing?" to which Contreras replied, "No, he's not breathing. He's dead."
During a subsequent court hearing, the 911 call made by Contreras was played, in which he said, "What did I do? I was fighting with my son... I lost it, he wouldn't stop."
Contreras was initially held without bond but was later granted release under house arrest with a GPS monitor. A judge eventually allowed him to reside with his wife, citing evaluations that indicated he was not a violent person and that his family supported his return.
Eric Contreras was a college student at Florida International University, described by friends as a caring individual who often had conflicts with his parents. The family had recently returned from a trip to Orlando, during which tensions reportedly escalated between father and son.
David Contreras has pleaded not guilty to the second-degree murder charge, and the case remains under investigation.
