In the afternoon hours of October 21, 2022, a burst of gunfire shattered the autumn quiet in the Sandtown-Winchester neighborhood of Baltimore. When the echo of the shots faded, 40-year-old David Braxton, a Black male, was discovered inside a vehicle on the 1000 block of North Calhoun Street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The call to the Baltimore Police Department came in around 4:30 p.m., spurred by a shot spotter alert that pinpointed the location of the violence.
