In the early hours of May 13, 2022, the body of Cartrel Baboolal, a 32-year-old Black male, was discovered inside a vacant dwelling in the 1800 block of Wilhelm Street in Baltimore, Maryland. An investigation revealed he had been shot and killed the previous day, on May 12, 2022. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The neighborhood, plagued by violence, was left shaken. One resident of the Southwest Baltimore community remembered Baboolal as a 'nice guy' and expressed shock at his death.
