In the fading light of a November evening in 2021, the day before Thanksgiving, tragedy struck in West Baltimore. Dontae Joshep Johnson, a 30-year-old Black / African American male, was found suffering from a gunshot wound in an alleyway in the 1000 block of Appleton Street. The hail of bullets that ended his life left behind a grim scene for investigators, with 28 nine-millimeter shell casings, bullet fragments, and a projectile recovered from the area.
