James Lynn "Sonny" Buchanan, aged 39, tragically lost his life on October 3, 2002, in Rockville, Maryland. Buchanan was one of the victims of the infamous DC Beltway Sniper attacks, a series of coordinated shootings that terrorized the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia areas over a three-week period in October 2002. On the morning of October 3, Buchanan was mowing the lawn at the Fitzgerald Auto Mall in North Bethesda when he was fatally shot by a single bullet fired from a distance.
