Marco Amaya Diaz, aged 55, tragically lost his life on March 17, 2022, in Fresno, California. The incident occurred at a mobile home on Clarkson Avenue near Cedar, where the family was preparing for a quinceañera celebration. Without any prior warning, Eduardo Amaya, Marco's 22-year-old son, began shooting his family members. Marco was found dead at the scene, while his 48-year-old wife and their 27-year-old daughter sustained serious gunshot wounds and were rushed to the hospital.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and investigators have not provided any indication as to why Eduardo carried out this violent act.
Following the shooting, Eduardo fled the scene and ran into a nearby orchard. During his escape, he fired additional shots, including at dogs on the property and another man who fortunately was not injured. A sheriff's helicopter crew located Eduardo, and deputies on the ground were able to apprehend him without further incident. The firearm used in the shooting was also recovered. Eduardo was subsequently arrested and charged with one count of murder, three counts of attempted murder, and two counts of child endangerment. He remains in the Fresno County Jail without bail.
The investigation into the incident revealed that Eduardo had a history of mental illness, although the sheriff's office did not elaborate on this aspect. Family members expressed their grief and shock over the tragedy, describing it as a complete and unexplainable tragedy.
