Devin K. Johnson, an 18-year-old from Fresno, California, tragically lost his life on February 11, 2022. Two primary suspects, Rafael Ordaz Gonzalez, 18, and Giovanni Rodriguez, 19, were identified and arrested shortly after the incident. Both suspects were affiliated with a criminal street gang, and the shooting was determined to be a gang-motivated murder. The investigation also led to the arrest of three other individuals—Gustavo Mendez, 44, Isaac Havens, 28, and a 17-year-old boy—on charges of assault and participating in the crime for the benefit of their gang.
In the legal proceedings that followed, Rafael Gonzalez accepted a plea deal, resulting in his charge being reduced from first-degree murder to voluntary manslaughter. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison, with the possibility of parole after approximately 15 years under new sentencing guidelines.
