On the night of August 28, 2021, 24-year-old Pablo Bretado from Pittsburg, California, was tragically shot and killed. The incident occurred around 10:42 PM near the intersection of Willow Pass Road and Bella Vista Avenue in Bay Point. Deputies from the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of shots fired and found Bretado suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite immediate first aid efforts by deputies, and the subsequent arrival of fire department personnel and an ambulance, Bretado was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation quickly identified 28-year-old Antonio Solis, also a resident of Pittsburg, as the primary suspect. Solis was located by Concord police officers, leading to a high-speed pursuit back into Bay Point. During the chase, Solis crashed his vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended with the assistance of the California Highway Patrol. Solis was arrested and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on charges of murder, assault with a firearm, and evading an officer with disregard for safety. He remains in custody with a bond set at $3.2 million.
The Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office filed formal charges against Solis on September 1, 2021. The charges include murder and assault with a firearm on a person. The Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding Bretado's death, urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
