Gregory Davis, an 18-year-old from San Diego, California, tragically lost his life on August 2, 2016. Davis had recently celebrated his high school graduation and 18th birthday. On the evening of his death, he was standing with a group of people near the intersection of 61st and Alderley streets in the Skyline neighborhood when two men approached and opened fire. Davis was struck in the upper body and was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Another man, 25-year-old Avery Ealy, was also shot but survived with a non-life-threatening leg wound.
The investigation into Davis's murder led to the identification of Deshaun Prescott as one of the shooters. Prescott, who was already in custody for a probation violation, was charged with murder. However, the second suspect involved in the shooting remained unidentified and at large. The San Diego Police Department's Homicide Unit continued to seek information from the public to apprehend the second suspect.
Davis's death deeply affected his family and community. His godmother and other relatives described him as a good kid who stayed out of trouble and had plans for his future, including possibly joining the U.S. Army. The community mourned the loss of a young life cut short by senseless violence, and the police urged anyone with information about the case to come forward to help bring justice for Gregory Davis.
