On April 22, 2009, 18-year-old Able Silva was tragically killed in a shooting incident in King City, California. The incident occurred while Silva and four other teenagers were playing video games in the garage of a house located in a King City neighborhood. During this time, a gunman opened fire on the group, resulting in the deaths of both Silva and 13-year-old Alex Cortes.
The shooting left the community in shock and mourning, as it claimed the lives of two young individuals who were simply enjoying their time together.
The investigation into the shooting revealed that the assailants were likely gang members, although the exact motive behind the attack remains unclear. The King City police, along with the Monterey County and San Luis Obispo County sheriff's departments and the Monterey County Joint Gang Task Force, have been actively pursuing leads and conducting interviews in an effort to identify the gunmen. Witnesses reported seeing three or four assailants approach the house and fire six to eight shots into the garage before fleeing the scene in a van, possibly green in color.

The National Organization of Parents of Murdered Children has offered a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the shooting.
