Chen Liang, a 32-year-old assistant professor of mechanical engineering at San Diego State University (SDSU), tragically lost his life on August 15, 1996. The incident occurred during a master's thesis defense meeting in the engineering building at SDSU. Frederick Martin Davidson, a 36-year-old graduate student, was the perpetrator of this heinous act.
