Alexander Donald Gross, a 30-year-old male from York, Pennsylvania, was found dead on July 14, 2021, in Miami Beach, Florida. His death occurred at the Villa Casa Casuarina, a luxury hotel that was once the home of fashion designer Gianni Versace. Gross, along with Adam Rashap, a 31-year-old male from Randolph, New Jersey, was discovered by a housekeeper in a hotel room. Both men had sustained gunshot wounds to the head.
The Miami Beach Police Department's preliminary investigation concluded that the incident was an apparent double suicide.
The timing of their deaths coincided with the 24th anniversary of Gianni Versace's assassination, which took place on the steps of the same mansion in 1997. This coincidence led to speculation about whether the anniversary played a role in the tragic event. However, authorities did not find any evidence to suggest a direct connection between the two incidents. The police report indicated that there was no threat to the public, and the investigation did not uncover any signs of foul play.
There were no arrests or suspects related to the deaths of Alexander Donald Gross and Adam Rashap. The case was treated as a double suicide, and no further criminal investigations or litigations were pursued. The motive behind their decision to end their lives remains unclear, and no additional details about their personal lives or potential reasons for their actions were disclosed by the authorities.
The deaths of Gross and Rashap were a somber reminder of the mental health struggles that many individuals face. The incident highlighted the importance of mental health awareness and the need for support systems to help those in distress. The Miami Beach community, while shocked by the event, continued to operate normally, with no lasting impact on the hotel's operations or the surrounding area.
