Marley William Lester Case, a 31-year-old security guard, was fatally shot outside Exchange South Beach nightclub in Miami Beach, Florida, on May 12, 2024. The incident occurred just before 2:30 a.m. when Case was on duty at the nightclub located at 1532 Washington Avenue.
The events leading to the shooting involved Dvonn Reaux, a 28-year-old patron who had been ejected from the club earlier that morning.
Reaux had been trying to fight with security staff and other patrons, prompting his removal from the premises. Police officers responded to the scene and documented the incident, during which Reaux complained about missing personal property inside the nightclub.
After being kicked out, Reaux returned to the club armed with a gun. Surveillance video captured the moment when Reaux approached Case, who was in mid-conversation with a co-worker, and shot him at close range. Case fell to the ground and was shot again by Reaux. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with people running from the gunfire.
When police arrived, they found Case lying on the ground with several gunshot wounds in his back. Officers administered CPR until Miami Beach Fire Rescue arrived and transported Case to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Dvonn Reaux was arrested later that Sunday by the Broward Sheriff's Office and is currently being held on a second-degree murder charge. During his court appearance, Judge Mindy Glazer denied Reaux’s bond and suggested that the charges could be upgraded to first-degree murder, describing the shooting as an "execution."
The community and colleagues of Marley William Lester Case gathered to pay tribute to him, with a memorial service and fundraiser planned. A GoFundMe page was also set up to help Case’s family with expenses following his death. Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner expressed outrage over the incident and vowed to introduce measures to curb violence, particularly targeting problematic businesses in the area.
