On October 23, 2020, 61-year-old Jerry Michael Stewart, a white male, was found deceased in the enclosed front porch area of his mobile home in Leesburg, Florida. The Lake County sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 call at the Holiday RV Village, located at 28229 County Road 33, just after 9 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Stewart had been fatally shot.
The investigation quickly led them to the neighboring Lot 21, where they found 61-year-old Scott Curtiss Rudolph, also a white male, sitting on his porch with a handgun near his feet and another firearm close by. Rudolph appeared to be intoxicated and eventually confessed to killing Stewart.
According to Stewart's wife, the two men had an argument earlier in the week, and Stewart had gone over to apologize to Rudolph a few days before the incident. The exact nature of the argument remains unclear. Rudolph was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He was transported to the Lake County Detention Center without incident and held without bond.
The case proceeded through the legal system, and in August 2022, Scott Curtiss Rudolph was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the murder of Jerry Michael Stewart.
