Malik also enjoyed spending time with his friends, shopping, and caring for his two dogs, Benji and Ccino.
He was planning to move to Houston, Texas, to start a new life and pursue his entrepreneurial dreams.
On the night of June 26, 2020, Malik Minnis was found dead at the College Square Apartments on West Pensacola Street in Tallahassee. The Tallahassee Police Department responded to the scene and discovered that Malik had been fatally shot. The investigation revealed that the incident was a result of a robbery gone wrong. Two men, Tre'shon Bunion and Jaylen Showers, both 21 years old, were arrested and charged with murder during the commission of a felony. According to court records, Showers and Bunion had planned to rob Malik, who was unarmed at the time. The encounter escalated, leading to Malik being shot and killed.
Showers and Bunion were identified as suspects after detectives interviewed witnesses and reviewed physical and video evidence. Showers, who waived his right to remain silent, admitted to the police that he and Bunion went to the apartment to rob Malik and that Bunion was the one who pulled the trigger. They stole an ounce of marijuana from the apartment after the shooting. Both men were taken into custody and held without bond at the Leon County Detention Facility.
