Jeremy Bailey, a 28-year-old resident of Boynton Beach, Florida, tragically lost his life on October 30, 2018. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning when Bailey was found with multiple gunshot wounds outside his apartment on the 600 block of Northeast First Street. The confrontation that led to his death was rooted in a dispute over a $15 drug sale. Johnnie Lee Moye, a 45-year-old man from Boynton Beach, was identified as the perpetrator.
Moye had directed his girlfriend to drive him to Bailey's residence, where he confronted Bailey about the disrupted drug transaction. When Bailey attempted to leave and return to his apartment, Moye shot him. Bailey was rushed to Delray Medical Center but succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
The investigation into Bailey's death quickly led to the arrest of Johnnie Lee Moye. Surveillance footage captured Moye and his girlfriend in a white SUV near the scene of the crime, which was later recognized by a West Palm Beach police officer. Moye was apprehended on November 5, 2018, just days after the fatal shooting. He was charged with second-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Circuit Judge Daliah Weiss sentenced him to 25 years in prison for the murder charge and an additional 10 years for the firearm possession, with both sentences to be served concurrently. Moye was also credited with nearly three years of jail time already served and ordered to pay court costs.
Bailey's death was one of four confirmed homicides in Boynton Beach in 2018 and contributed to the 101 homicides recorded in Palm Beach County that year.
