On November 15, 2024, a fatal shooting occurred near the New Disciples Worship Center in Boynton Beach, Florida. The victim, identified as Brandon Rahming, a 43-year-old man, was found with fatal injuries near the intersection of Northeast Second Street and Northeast 12th Avenue. When officers from the Boynton Beach Police Department arrived at the scene, they found Rahming and he was subsequently pronounced dead by Boynton Beach Fire Rescue.
The incident is believed to have resulted from an altercation between two men. A neighbor reported hearing two shots, although she initially did not realize the significance of the sounds due to the neighborhood's environment. The Rahming family released a statement expressing their grief, describing Brandon as a cherished brother, a devoted son, and a loyal friend to many.
Following the shooting, the Boynton Beach Police Department launched an investigation with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service. During the investigation, a person of interest was identified as Rodney Askins, a 50-year-old man who matched a witness description of the shooter. Askins was encountered by police and was found to be carrying a small amount of crack cocaine, for which he was also arrested.
A search warrant was issued for Askins' home, where investigators found two firearms along with an array of ammunition, as well as a hat and bicycle that matched the description of those used by the shooter. As a result, Askins was arrested and booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on charges of First Degree Murder with a Firearm.
The case has been resolved with the arrest of the suspect, and Askins is currently in custody awaiting further legal proceedings.
