Deborah Ramos-Arce, a 35-year-old white female, was tragically killed on April 6, 2018, in Homestead, Florida. The incident occurred at her residence located at 220 NE 12 Avenue. According to the Miami-Dade Police Department, the event was a result of a domestic dispute that escalated into a fatal shooting. Deborah Ramos-Arce and her boyfriend, David Fluitt, were both found dead at the scene.
The police were alerted to the situation by a 911 call reporting a shooting at the residence.
The investigation revealed that the shooter was a 19-year-old male, Omar Dopico, who was the boyfriend of Ramos-Arce's 17-year-old daughter. The altercation began as a verbal dispute between Ramos-Arce and Fluitt, which quickly turned physical. In an attempt to protect his pregnant girlfriend's mother, Dopico intervened and shot Fluitt. Unfortunately, Ramos-Arce was caught in the line of fire and was also fatally shot.
Dopico, who had a history of criminal activity including burglary and drug possession, was taken into custody without incident. He faced multiple charges, including first-degree murder, second-degree murder, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and possession of marijuana with intent to sell. The investigation also uncovered that there were four children, aged 1 to 10, present in the home at the time of the shooting. These children, along with the 17-year-old daughter, were placed in the care of the Florida Department of Children and Families.
The case highlighted issues of domestic violence and the presence of illegal activities within the household. David Fluitt, the deceased boyfriend, had a history of domestic violence and drug trafficking. The tragic event underscored the complexities and dangers of domestic disputes, particularly when firearms are involved.
