In the summer of 2020, the city of Albany, Georgia, was rocked by the violent death of a local businessman. Nicholas Vardikos, an 84-year-old white male, was found deceased inside his business, USA Restaurant Equipment, on June 30, 2020. An autopsy would later reveal that he had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, and authorities immediately began investigating his death as a homicide. The incident was the sixth homicide in the Albany/Dougherty County area that year.
