She was a shy and caring individual who loved spending time with her siblings and grandparents. Natallie and her brother, Miguel, were inseparable and enjoyed attending school events together. Her untimely death was part of a larger tragedy that claimed the lives of four other individuals.
On the morning of September 29, 2022, McGregor Police responded to a
shots fired call near West 8th and Monroe streets. Upon arrival, they encountered a suspect who opened fire on the officers, who returned fire and ultimately took the suspect into custody. The suspect was identified as Nicolas Jaimes-Hernandez, who was married to Monica Delgado Aviles, Natallie's mother. Jaimes-Hernandez was not the biological father of Natallie or her brother, Miguel.
The victims of this horrific incident included Monica Delgado Aviles , Miguel Avila , Natallie Avila , Lorena "Lori" Aviles , and Natalie Aviles . The suspect, Jaimes-Hernandez, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and additional charges were pending. The community was left in shock, struggling to come to terms with the senseless act of violence.
Natallie's family and friends have been deeply affected by her loss, and a GoFundMe campaign was started to help cover funeral expenses and support her siblings. The McGregor community held vigils and provided grief support to help those affected by this tragedy.
