She was a nursing student at Temple College with aspirations of becoming a pediatric oncologist, inspired by her father's battle with cancer. Natalie was also actively involved in her community, serving as Miss McGregor for two years and as a worship leader at Bethlehem Christian Church.
The circumstances surrounding Natalie's death were part of a horrific shooting spree that claimed the lives of five people in McGregor. The suspect, Nicolas Jaimes-Hernandez, allegedly shot and killed his wife, Monica Delgado Aviles, her two teenage children, Miguel Avila and Natallie Avila, and two neighbors, Lorena "Lori" Aviles and Natalie Aviles. The incident occurred early in the morning, and when police arrived at the scene, Jaimes-Hernandez reportedly opened fire on them before being taken into custody.
Jaimes-Hernandez was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and additional charges, including capital murder, were pending. The community was left in shock and mourning, with vigils held to honor the victims and support their families.
