Tempe Marie Shelton, a 62-year-old woman from Channelview, Texas, tragically lost her life on June 29, 2022. On that fateful day, Shelton was sitting inside an SUV with four other individuals when a confrontation occurred. The incident took place in front of a home on Coolidge Street near the North Shore Drive intersection. Deputies reported that the suspect, 31-year-old Adrian Lowe, emerged from one of the duplexes with a rifle in hand and fired three shots into the vehicle, striking Shelton
in the chest. The confrontation is believed to have stemmed from a dispute between Lowe and the owner of the vehicle, with whom he had a history of bad blood.
Shelton's brother was also present in the SUV during the shooting, although it remains unclear if he sustained any injuries. Witnesses at the scene managed to physically restrain Lowe until deputies arrived. No firearms were found inside the vehicle Shelton was in. The Harris County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene and conducted an investigation into the shooting. Lowe was subsequently charged with murder and taken into custody.
The investigation revealed that the SUV Shelton was in had pulled up to the property of duplexes for what investigators believe was a drug-related matter. Lowe, who resided in one of the duplexes, recognized the vehicle from surveillance cameras and confronted the occupants. The situation escalated quickly, leading to the fatal shooting of Shelton. The driver of the SUV attempted to flee the scene but collided with a garbage dumpster in the driveway.
Following the shooting, two men from the SUV confronted Lowe, resulting in a brief physical altercation. Lowe eventually surrendered to authorities and provided a statement to investigators. The rifle used in the shooting was recovered at the scene, and Lowe faced pending murder charges. The tragic death of Tempe Marie Shelton has left her family and friends in mourning, as they remember her as a kind-hearted individual who loved animals, flowers, and making jewelry.
